Getting started
A DecideNext table is created by a manager and voted on by a team. There are no accounts — the manager gets a secret manager key, and each voter gets a unique link. Here's the whole flow from an empty table to live results.
1. Create a table
From the homepage, click Get Started Free or go directly to /setup. Fill in:
- Table name — required.
- Methodology — see step 2.
- Manager password — at least 4 characters. This protects the manager dashboard, so pick something only you (and co-managers) know.
2. Choose a methodology
The methodology decides what voters score and how results are calculated. It can't be changed after the table is created, so pick the one that fits how your team wants to decide:
- ICE — Impact, Confidence, Ease.
- RICE — Reach, Impact, Confidence, Effort.
- MoSCoW — Must / Should / Could / Won't-have categories.
- Buy a Feature — each voter gets a fixed budget to "buy" initiatives. You'll also set a budget per voter on this step.
- WSJF — Business Value, Time Criticality, Risk Reduction, and Job Size (SAFe-style, 1–20 scale).
- Paired Comparison — voters pick a winner from head-to-head pairs across a few rounds instead of entering numbers.
- Weighted Decision Matrix — you define up to 10 custom criteria (e.g. Cost, Impact, Feasibility), each with a percentage weight that must add up to 100%. Voters then score every initiative on each criterion.
See the Voting guide for how each methodology is scored.
3. Save your manager key
Creating the table gives you a manager key and a manager URL (/manager/<manager_key>). Combined with your manager password, this is how you get back into the table — copy it somewhere safe before you move on. From here you land on the manager dashboard.
4. Add initiatives
On the dashboard's Initiatives section, add the things your team will prioritize. Each initiative has a title (required), an optional description, optional tags, and — for Buy a Feature tables — a cost. You can edit, delete, and reorder initiatives at any time.
For a larger list, use Import to bulk-add initiatives from a file instead of typing them one by one:
- Accepts a JSON array or a CSV file, up to 50 initiatives per import.
- JSON objects use
title,description, andtagsfields. - CSV files use a
title, description, tagsheader, with multiple tags in one cell separated by a semicolon (;). - For Buy a Feature tables, every imported initiative also needs a
buyafeature_cost. - Rows with a title matching an existing initiative (case-insensitive) are skipped as duplicates, and you'll see a preview and an imported/skipped count before and after import.
5. Add voters
In the Voters section, click Add Voter and give them a name (email is optional, for your reference only). Each voter gets a unique link in the form /vote/<access_token>, shown with a copy button next to their name. Voters are identified by name — there are no anonymous votes.
You can also set a voter password from the same section. It's a single password shared by all voters on the table (not one per person), it's optional, and you can set, change, or leave it unset at any time. If no voter password is set, voters land straight on the voting page without entering one.
6. Share links and watch results
Send each voter their own link (and the voter password, if you set one). As soon as the first vote comes in, the dashboard's Results section starts showing live calculated scores and rankings — you don't need to wait for everyone to finish. The dashboard also tracks who has voted and who hasn't, so you know who to follow up with.
